FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Why do I need a security system?
A: According to a 2000 survey by the National Burglar and Fire Association, 90% of convicted burglars said they would avoid a house protected by an alarm system. While no security system is completely penetration proof, an ADT monitored home security system makes your home 3 times less likely to be burglarized*.

Q: What benefits can I expect from my ADT Monitored Home Security System?
A: As you might expect, the primary benefit of an ADT monitored home security system is making your home and family safer. Q: Why does ADT have 4 monitoring centers?
A: ADT's 4 monitoring centers are located in New York, Florida, Texas and Tennessee. These centers communicate with one another and can be used as backup in case of power failure. These 4 interconnected monitoring centers make ADT monitoring virtually fail safe.
Q: What if I live far away from an ADT monitoring center?
A: The ADT monitored home security system sends signals electronically, so you don't have to be located in close proximity to an ADT monitoring center to receive uninterrupted monitoring 24 hours a day and a quick response to every emergency situation in your home. Your physical proximity to one of ADT's monitoring centers has no impact on monitoring services or response time.
Q: What happens when the alarm goes off?
A: Should your alarm be triggered, a trained ADT professional will use the two-way voice feature on your control panel to verify the emergency. If no password is provided, or if an incorrect password is given, ADT will notify police or other appropriate emergency response services immediately. The ADT monitored home security system is so precise that ADT can detect exactly which window, door or motion sensor has been tripped. ADT will then provide the appropriate authorities with the location of the intrusion, as well as your name and address. ADT's dispatchers are able to get the police all necessary information during your emergency.
Q: How can an ADT monitored security system save me money?
A: An ADT monitored security system may add value to your home and can also save you up to 20% on your homeowner's insurance base premium with most insurance companies. Upon installation, you will be provided with a certificate of coverage to give to your insurance company.
Q: Does having a home security system really scare off burglars?
A: An ADT yard sign or window decal is a surprisingly effective burglar deterrent. When burglars see your ADT yard sign, they will know immediately that your home is protected by America's #1 monitored home security company. A house without evidence of a monitored security system is a much more likely target. (Source: U.S. Department of Justice, 1999)
Q: Will my pet trigger the motion sensors?
A: Pet-Immune Infrared motion sensors are designed to ignore animals based on weight and heat. These sensors are so advanced that they can detect the difference between an animal and a human by the way heat is allocated throughout the body.
Q: Why do I need a landline?
A: Some ADT monitored home security systems come with an optional feature called Two-Way Voice which uses your landline in case of emergency. In the event that your alarm is triggered, the system will access your phone line to call the ADT customer monitoring center immediately. Two-Way Voice then allows you to communicate directly with an ADT dispatcher from your home control panel.
Q: Will my service be compromised when I use my home phone line?
A: No. Your ADT monitored home security system is designed to seize your phone line in case of emergency to call the ADT Monitoring Center immediately. It will then release the line, so a trained professional from one of the four ADT monitoring centers can verify an emergency and dispatch the appropriate emergency response individuals to your home.
Q: Will my alarm system still work if my electricity goes out?
A: Yes. In the case of a power outage, your back-up battery will take over to maintain your alarm protection. In the event of a low battery, a signal will be sent to ADT's Customer Monitoring Center so that they can notify you.
Q: How Does Two-Way Voice work?
A: Two-Way Voice is a hands-free feature that allows you to talk directly to an ADT Dispatcher from anywhere in your home. Your control panel serves as an intercom over which an ADT Dispatcher is able to confirm an emergency situation in your home and ask you for your password code. Your control panel contains a microphone so strong that it can pick up a normal-volume speaking voice from more than 75 feet - this allows you to communicate with ADT Dispatchers even if you're injured and unable to get to your control panel.
Q: Which areas of my home will be protected?
A: ADT monitored home security systems are designed to help protect the most vulnerable areas of your home - the areas that are most often targeted by intruders. Every ADT monitored system is fully equipped to provide you the most complete protection.
Perimeter - Your system detects potential intruders before they even step inside by securing your home's entry points, such as doors and windows. Your sensors will notify ADT monitoring centers exactly which protected area has detected a break in.
Interior - ADT's state-of-the-art motion detectors act as an invisible blanket of protection over a wide area inside your home. Even if an intruder managed to get past your perimeter security sensors, the wireless infrared detectors inside sense human body heat and movement, instantly activating your system and alerting the ADT monitoring center with detailed information.
