Microchips are making headlines by playing a key part in reuniting long lost dogs with their owners, so it is no wonder that micro-chipping has become so popular and mainstream. If you own a dog, it should be micro-chipped. This is the best way to improve your chances of being reunited with your dog if it ran away or got loose.

Identification Tags

Proper identification is also very important. Your dog's ID tag should include your dog's name, phone number, and your dog's AVID (micro-chip) number. Optional information includes your last name, your address, and medical ID (such as "requires medication").

Home Security

Believe it or not, home security plays an essential part in keeping your pet safe at home. Many home security systems now have remote monitoring, so you can be alerted when an intruder enters the home, or if a door or window is open. This can be really helpful if you get to your destination and can't remember if you remembered to close a window or lock a door. You can also adjust the temperature in your home or install cameras to monitor your home and pet. This will give you a piece of mind that Fido is safe and comfortable, even when you're away!

Vaccinations and Health

Nothing is more important than doing your best to keep your pet healthy and happy. Be sure to keep update with vaccinations, especially if you frequent popular pet destinations like parks and walking paths. Be sure to feed your dog recommended servings of food, and walk them daily. Pet insurance has become more popular due to their ever expanding options. If you are interested in getting pet insurance for your pet, be sure to do your research!
